The Powder Brown Tang, also known as the Powder Brown Surgeonfish, Japan Surgeonfish, and White-faced Surgeonfish, features a brown body with a distinctive white marking on its cheek, between the mouth and eyes. Its pectoral, anal, and dorsal fins are dark brown with light blue highlights at the tips, while the dorsal fin also sports an orange stripe. The tail is blue with a yellow vertical bar, and yellow striping runs along the body, forming a wishbone-shaped pattern against the anal and dorsal fins.
To accommodate its active swimming needs, a 125-gallon or larger aquarium is required. Only one Powder Brown Tang should be kept per tank, as they can be territorial. Exercise caution when housing them with other Tangs or Surgeonfish, as similar-shaped species tend to be aggressive toward one another.
While Tangs will consume meaty foods alongside other fish in the tank, their diet should include a substantial amount of marine-based seaweed and algae. This helps boost their immune system, minimize aggression, and promote overall health. Offer dried seaweed attached to a rock or secured with a veggie clip, feeding at least three times per week. Convenient options include Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition, all of which are easy to use.
