Magenta Dottyback

The Purple Dottyback, also known as the Magenta Dottyback or Purple Pseudochromis, is a striking fish with a vivid magenta coloration that adds a bold pop of color to marine aquariums. Despite its small size, it has a strong personality and specific care requirements.

A minimum 30-gallon tank is recommended, as this species can be territorial, especially toward other Pseudochromis or similarly shaped fish. To minimize aggression, provide ample hiding spots such as caves, rock structures, and crevices. While it can coexist with larger, more robust tankmates, it may harass smaller or more timid fish. Keeping multiple Dottybacks together is not advised unless they are a bonded pair or housed in a large aquarium.

A well-balanced diet is essential for maintaining the Dottybacks brilliant coloration and overall health. It thrives on meaty foods like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or prepared foods. A varied diet enriched with vitamins will enhance its color and strengthen its immune system. Feeding small portions multiple times daily is ideal, and offering occasional live foods like copepods can stimulate natural hunting behavior.

Hardy and relatively easy to care for, the Purple Dottyback thrives in a well-maintained tank with stable water conditions. Regular water changes and proper filtration will support its health, allowing it to live for several years. With the right setup and consideration of its territorial nature, this fish can be a vibrant and fascinating addition to a marine aquarium.
