The Bristletooth Tomini Tang, also known as the Tomini Surgeonfish, is a striking species that changes noticeably as it matures. Juveniles display a tan body accented with yellow, blue, and white highlights. As they grow, the coloration becomes more definedthe tail turns a bold blue, while the dorsal and anal fins develop golden-yellow tips. Above the eyes, shimmering golden specks appear, complemented by a distinctive golden half-circle below.
To accommodate their active nature, a tank of at least 70 gallons is recommended, providing ample swimming space. While the Tomini Tang can be territorial toward other tangs, it remains peaceful with most other fish species.
Though they will readily consume meaty foods offered to tankmates, a diet rich in marine-based seaweed and algae is essential for their long-term health. Regular feedings of dried seaweedsecured with a veggie clip or tied to a rockhelp boost the immune system, reduce aggressive behavior, and promote vibrant coloration. Aim to feed at least three times a week using trusted products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, or Ocean Nutrition algae sheets.
