This is crucial for our fish and other sea creatures.
Adding the Java Fern to our aquariums helps create a balanced and thriving environment. Its ability to adapt, its hardiness, and its many benefits make it a vital part of any freshwater aquarium in Australia.

Java Ferns don’t need to be rooted. They prefer to attach to substrates or decorations. You can use fishing line, glue, or plant clips to secure them. They can be attached to driftwood, rocks, or other plants. You can also plant them in gravel, sand, or let them float. By providing the right conditions, your Java Fern will thrive. It will add beauty and charm to your aquarium.
As an aquatic plant enthusiast, we know that caring for your Java Fern is key. It’s important for its health and growth in your aquarium. Luckily, growing and keeping this plant is easy.
Java Fern is simple to propagate. The best way is to divide the rhizome, the stem from which leaves grow. Remove the plant from the substrate carefully, avoiding the roots. Then, separate the rhizome into smaller parts, each with a leaf. Plant these sections in your aquarium. Use fishing line or aquarium-safe glue to attach them to driftwood, rocks, or the substrate. You can also use plantlets that grow on the Java Fern’s leaves. Detach these small shoots and attach them to a surface in your aquarium.
By following these simple tips, your Java Fern will thrive. It will remain a beautiful, easy-to-care-for part of your aquarium.

Low to medium lighting is completely sufficient, although it also grows well under strong lighting. Older leaves can sometimes produce plantlets that can easily be cut away and reattached in another place using a piece of thin fishing line.

Loose cuttings are harvested from our aquariums at Aqua Lab. While we try our best to remove snails, we can’t guarantee that these plants will be pest or disease-free. It’s common for tiny snails or microscopic snail eggs to hitchhike on plants that come from an established aquarium. A single portion of cuttings can vary and depends on the species, but generally,it’sabout a handful. For stem plants, this is typically abunchof several stems that are approx. 6″+ in length. If the stems do not have roots, simply plant them and roots will sprout in time. For crown plants like Crypts, it will be a single established plant with roots. For rhizome plants like Anubias, Java Fern, and Bucephelandra, a portion is usually one segment of rhizome with several leaves androotscoming off of it. Please keep in mind that plant and portion sizes can varyas our plants grow and propagate.
We only ship livestock Monday to Wednesday to avoid weekend delays. Please keep in mind the availability of plants can change quickly as they come in and out of our possession or deteriorate in health, so there could be a delay updating the published availability. We will be in touch if the species you order is not available and you will always have the option to wait or take a substitute or refund.
