Six Bar Angelfish (Juvenile)

Also known as the Sixbanded or Six Striped Angelfish, this striking species features a pale tan body marked with five evenly spaced dark brown stripes, and a distinctive sixth white stripe just behind the eye. Its entire body is speckled with dark blue spots, while the caudal and rear anal fins shimmer with vivid sapphire-blue dots. Divers and aquarists alike report that this angelfish may emit a grunting sound as a warning when approached.

Six Bar Angelfish are hermaphroditic and challenging to breed in captivity. Males and females appear identical, making them nearly impossible to distinguish by coloration. Due to their size, they require a spacious tank of at least 220 gallons, with plenty of live rock and hiding spots to feel secure. They are not considered reef-safe, as they tend to nip at stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles.

Their diet should consist of a variety of foods, including Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis or frozen shrimp, and other meaty fare. For optimal health, they should be fed a minimum of three times per day.
