The Yellow Pyramid Butterflyfish, also referred to as the Yellow Zoster Butterflyfish, is commonly found in large gatherings across reefs in the Indian Ocean. Its fins are a vibrant yellow, while most of its body is white, forming a triangular shape that gives rise to its pyramid name. A black head area helps this fish blend into its surroundings, and in the wild, it primarily feeds on plankton. These characteristics make it a good choice for reef aquariums.
Though the Yellow Pyramid Butterflyfish is somewhat timid at first, providing plenty of hiding spots can help it settle in. An aquarium of at least 125 gallons with abundant live rock is recommended, as this setup offers both shelter and a supplemental food source. These fish can be housed singly, in pairs, or in small groups; however, they may occasionally nip at soft corals such as Xenia if not adequately fed. Offering multiple small meals each day is ideal.
Their diet should include frozen and freeze-dried foods that contain algae, along with dried algae sheets and vitamin-enriched brine and mysis shrimp. Regular, varied feedings help ensure that this visually striking butterflyfish remains healthy.
